The basic needs of street children are completely neglected in Uganda. In addition to the obvious neglect by parents and the government, there is also systemic abuse of street children that happens on a daily basis.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe street children of Soroti live in\nappalling conditions. They suffer from a lack of social acceptance.\nThe children are constantly exposed to discrimination, neglect, torment and\nabuse. Due to extreme poverty, they end up on the\nstreets of Soroti, where they are helplessly\nexposed to these unbearable conditions. In order to survive, they are forced to fish rotten food\nout of the garbage and sleep under cold and open verandas at\n. They have no access to medical care.<\/p>\n

Many of these children were born to sex workers\nwho, due to their circumstances, are forced to abandon these children at the\nage of just three. This leaves the children no\nchoice but to learn to cope with life on their own\nfar too young. It is almost impossible for them to register at a school\n. So they are ultimately forgotten and seem destined for a\nlife marked by isolation and rejection, which is why\nthey are disadvantaged in many ways.<\/p>\n

They are forced to do child labor and\nare hired by people to fetch water or do chores at\n. At night, the children often experience abuse and torment from\npolice officers who patrol the city. Many criminals\nalso take advantage of children’s vulnerable situation and many children\nfind themselves as thieves.<\/p>\n

Due to these realities, survival is a daily struggle for\nthe children and their hopes for a better\nfuture are shattered time and time again.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
